Mueller Industries Cuts Quarterly Dividend After Stock Split

Mueller Industries reduced its quarterly per-share dividend by 50% to $0.175, reflecting a two-for-one stock split rather than a lower payout on an equivalent pre-split holding.

MLIMLI Mueller Industries, Inc.

Mueller Industries Inc. cut its quarterly dividend by 50% to $0.175 per share from $0.35 per share. The industrial company’s shares went ex-dividend on Sept. 4, 2026.

Although the change is classified as a dividend cut on a per-share basis, company filings indicate it was a mechanical adjustment following a two-for-one forward stock split—not a reduction in the cash distributed on an equivalent pre-split holding. Mueller’s board had said the split would result in proportionate adjustments to its regular quarterly dividend. Each shareholder received one additional share for every share held, with split-adjusted trading beginning July 1. Mueller Industries’ stock-split announcement

That distinction matters: two post-split shares paying $0.175 each generate the same $0.35 quarterly cash payment as one pre-split share at the previous rate. Mueller subsequently declared the split-adjusted dividend through a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. SEC filing on the third-quarter dividend

Context for the change

Mueller manufactures products used in markets including air, water, oil and gas distribution, climate systems, electrical transmission, medical equipment, aerospace and automotive applications. Its operations span North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East, according to the company’s split announcement.

Recent operating disclosures also support the interpretation that the lower per-share amount was split-related. In its second-quarter report, Mueller recorded year-over-year increases in sales and net income and said demand was strengthening across its commercial, industrial and electrical markets. The company also reported strong backlogs and recent acquisitions in its core metals businesses. Mueller Industries’ second-quarter earnings release

On a mechanically reported basis, the cut follows five consecutive years of dividend growth and is the first recorded reduction since 2016. SmarterDividends assigns the payout a safety score of 58 out of 100, corresponding to a C grade.

What it means for income investors

The new quarterly rate implies an annual dividend of $0.70 per share and a forward yield of 1.17% at a share price of $60.33. Investors comparing the payment with historical dividends should use split-adjusted figures: while the stated per-share rate was halved, an equivalent holding contains twice as many shares, leaving the aggregate quarterly cash amount unchanged.
