Nuveen Nasdaq 100 Dynamic Overwrite Fund (QQQX) increased its quarterly distribution to 0.738 per share from 0.615, with the shares trading ex-dividend on 2026-06-15.

The new payout implies an annual dividend of 2.95 per share and a forward annual yield of 0.0967 based on a share price of 30.6. The increase is listed at 0.2 and marks the fund’s second consecutive year of dividend growth, following a cut in 2023.

QQQX is a closed-end fund in the financial services sector. Nuveen describes the fund as seeking regular distributions and attractive total return with less volatility than the Nasdaq 100 Index by holding a U.S. equity portfolio intended to substantially replicate Nasdaq 100 price movements while selling call options on part of the portfolio. Nuveen also says the approach may generate distributions from qualified dividend income, long-term capital gains and return of capital. Nuveen fund page

That structure matters because QQQX’s payout is tied to a covered-call closed-end fund model rather than the operating cash flow of a traditional corporation. Nuveen cautions that if a fund distribution includes sources other than net investment income, Section 19(a) notices provide estimates at the time and that final tax characterization may differ after year-end. The sponsor also notes that a distribution rate should not be confused with yield or performance. Nuveen fund page

What it means for income investors

For income-focused holders, the increase raises the quarterly cash distribution and annualized income run rate, but the fund’s dividend profile remains more complex than a common-stock dividend. QQQX carries a dividend safety score of 59 and a C safety grade, and its record includes a cut in 2023. The higher payout therefore improves current income, while the fund’s option-overwrite strategy, distribution composition and closed-end fund market-price behavior remain central factors to monitor.
