Dorchester Minerals Declares $1.273 Special Distribution

Dorchester Minerals, L.P. declared a special quarterly distribution of $1.273 per unit, up about 168% from its previous rate of $0.475. The units trade under the ticker DMLP and have an ex-dividend date of Aug. 3, 2026.

At a share price of $29.02, the partnership’s $3.19 annual dividend per share equates to a forward annual yield of 11%. The latest payment represents a sharp sequential increase, but Dorchester’s distributions vary with cash generated by its oil and natural-gas interests and should not be viewed as a fixed-rate dividend.

Distribution reflects variable royalty income

Dorchester said the distribution represents activity from the latest quarterly period. Its release reported cash receipts from both its Royalty Properties and Net Profits Interest, the two principal sources supporting partnership distributions. Those receipts can fluctuate with commodity prices, production volumes, operating costs and the timing of payments from property operators. Dorchester Minerals’ distribution announcement

The partnership also cautioned in its latest results that cash distributions are not directly comparable with net earnings because of timing differences and depletion. That distinction helps explain why a quarterly payout can move substantially even when reported earnings follow a different pattern. Dorchester Minerals’ second-quarter results

Dorchester is a Dallas-based owner of producing and non-producing oil and natural-gas mineral, royalty, overriding royalty, net-profits and leasehold interests. Its portfolio spans multiple U.S. producing regions, giving the partnership exposure to royalties without relying on a single operating basin. Dorchester Minerals investor overview

What it means for income investors

The larger payment boosts near-term cash income, but it does not establish a new recurring base rate. Dorchester has no consecutive annual growth streak in the locked data and previously reduced its dividend in 2025. Its dividend safety score is 52 out of 100, corresponding to a C grade.

For income investors, the key distinction is between current yield and payout consistency. The 11% forward annual yield describes the indicated income relative to the stated share price, while Dorchester’s variable distribution structure means future quarterly payments may differ materially from the latest special payout. The event therefore increases current income without removing the volatility associated with energy royalties and net-profits interests.
