ADX — Adams Diversified Equity Fund, Inc.
Adams Diversified Equity Fund, Inc. (NYSE: ADX) increased its quarterly distribution to $0.50 per share from $0.48, a 4.17% rise. The shares traded ex-dividend on July 27, 2026.
At the stated share price of $25.77, the new rate represents an annualized dividend of $2.00 per share and a forward annual yield of 7.72%. The increase extends the fund’s dividend-growth run to two consecutive years. ADX previously reduced its payout in 2015.
The higher distribution is consistent with the mechanics of ADX’s managed distribution policy. Under that policy, quarterly payments are linked to average net asset value rather than being set solely from recurring portfolio income. The fund adopted the framework in 2024 to provide more regular and predictable distributions. Payments may be funded from net investment income, realized capital gains or return of capital, depending on the fund’s results. Adams Funds’ distribution announcement said the sources reported for the latest payment were estimates and that final tax classifications would be determined after year-end.
ADX is an actively managed closed-end fund focused on a diversified portfolio of large-cap equities. Its largest holdings at midyear included Nvidia, Apple, Alphabet, Microsoft and Amazon, according to the fund’s portfolio page.
The fund reported that its net asset value generated a positive total return in the first half of 2026 and modestly outpaced both the S&P 500 and its Morningstar large-blend peer category. That performance provided a supportive backdrop for a distribution policy tied to net asset value, although the fund cautions that investors should not infer investment performance from the size of a distribution alone. Adams Funds reported the first-half results.
What it means for income investors
The increase raises the quarterly cash-income rate attached to each ADX share and lifts the annualized payout to $2.00. The dividend safety score is 70, corresponding to a B grade.
Because ADX is a closed-end fund, however, its distributions are not directly comparable with dividends paid solely from a corporation’s operating earnings. The source can include investment income and realized gains, while the final tax treatment may differ from the fund’s initial estimates. Investors receiving the distribution should consult the fund’s year-end tax information for its ultimate classification.
