BP — BP p.l.c.
BP p.l.c. increased its quarterly dividend to $0.52 per share from $0.499, a 4.21% rise. The shares traded ex-dividend on Aug. 14, 2026.
The increase extends BP’s run of consecutive annual dividend growth to four years. The energy company previously cut its payout in 2021, making the latest action another step in rebuilding the dividend since that reduction.
The higher distribution coincided with a stronger second quarter. BP reported underlying replacement-cost profit of $5.7 billion, up from $3.2 billion in the preceding quarter and $2.4 billion a year earlier. Profit attributable to shareholders was $3.9 billion, while operating cash flow reached $10.9 billion. The company attributed the improvement primarily to higher liquids and gas realizations, stronger refining margins and a stronger customers result, partly offset by higher exploration write-offs. BP’s second-quarter filing
Performance improved across BP’s principal operating businesses. The company said its oil production and operations result benefited from higher liquids realizations and production mix, while customers and products gained from stronger refining margins, seasonal volumes and improved performance at Castrol. BP ended the quarter with net debt of $22.3 billion, broadly level with the end of 2025. BP’s second-quarter filing
What it means for income investors
The new payout carries a forward annual yield of 4.51% based on a share price of $43.74. BP’s annual dividend per share is $2.02.
For shareholders focused on income, the increase provides a higher quarterly cash distribution and continues the post-2021 recovery in the payout. However, BP’s dividend record still includes that earlier cut, and the company has a dividend safety score of 66 out of 100, equivalent to a C grade. Those measures indicate a moderate rather than top-tier safety profile, despite the latest earnings and cash-flow improvement.
