CenterPoint Energy Raises Quarterly Dividend 4.35%

CenterPoint Energy Inc. (NYSE: CNP) raised its quarterly dividend to $0.24 per share from $0.23, an increase of 4.35%. The utility’s shares traded ex-dividend on Aug. 20, 2026.

At the new rate, CenterPoint’s annualized dividend is $0.96 per share. That represents a forward yield of 2.48% based on a share price of $39.10.

The increase extends CenterPoint’s dividend-growth streak to five consecutive years. That record follows a dividend cut in 2020, making the latest increase part of the company’s subsequent rebuilding of its common-stock payout. CenterPoint’s published dividend history documents the progression in its quarterly distributions.

Growth and infrastructure spending

The company did not tie the dividend decision to a specific operating development. However, the increase comes against a backdrop of earnings growth, regulatory recovery and expanding infrastructure requirements.

CenterPoint reported second-quarter 2026 net income of $244 million, or $0.37 per diluted share, compared with $0.30 per share a year earlier. Non-GAAP earnings rose to $0.40 per share from $0.29. The company attributed most of the improvement to growth and regulatory recovery, partly offset by weather, usage and higher interest expense. It also reiterated full-year non-GAAP earnings guidance of at least the midpoint of its $1.89-to-$1.91 range. CenterPoint Energy

CenterPoint also increased its 10-year capital-investment plan by $1.2 billion to $66.7 billion through 2035. The expansion reflects anticipated investment related to large-load customers in Houston and revised estimates for a downtown Houston project. The company’s quarterly filing says the spending is expected to focus primarily on infrastructure intended to improve system safety, reliability and resilience. SEC filing

What it means for income investors

The higher quarterly payment provides shareholders with an additional $0.01 per share each quarter and restores another year of dividend growth after the 2020 reduction. The dividend carries a safety score of 68 out of 100, corresponding to a B grade. For income-focused investors, the key figures are the $0.96 annualized payout and 2.48% forward yield; future dividend capacity will also depend on CenterPoint balancing its large capital program, financing requirements and regulated-utility cash flows.
