MGE Energy Inc. (NASDAQ: MGEE) increased its quarterly dividend to $0.508 per share from $0.475, a 6.95% rise. The utility holding company’s shares traded ex-dividend on Sept. 1, 2026.

The new rate equates to an annual dividend of $2.03 per share. Based on a share price of $77.45, the forward annual yield is 2.62%.

The increase extends MGE Energy’s record of annual dividend growth to 38 consecutive years. The company carries a dividend safety score of 93 out of 100, corresponding to an A grade.

MGE Energy is based in Madison, Wisconsin, and operates principally through regulated utility Madison Gas and Electric, which supplies electricity and natural gas in parts of Wisconsin. Other subsidiaries hold interests in transmission and generation assets, according to the company’s corporate overview.

Investment program supports long-term strategy

In announcing the increase, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Jeff Keebler said the board’s decision reflected confidence in the company’s long-term strategy and disciplined financial management. He also linked shareholder returns to investment in reliable, resilient and increasingly sustainable energy infrastructure, according to the company’s dividend announcement.

Those investments remain a central part of MGE Energy’s capital program. In its second-quarter regulatory filing, the company attributed higher capital expenditures primarily to electric and gas utility projects, including Sunnyside, Dawn Harvest, Saratoga and local battery-storage construction. The company also said a recent common-stock offering and forward-sale agreements would provide additional liquidity and financial flexibility for future capital needs. Management reported growing interest from large-load customers, although it cautioned that the timing and scale of individual projects remained uncertain, according to the quarterly SEC filing.

What it means for income investors

The higher payment lifts the annual income generated by each share while preserving the company’s quarterly schedule. At the stated share price, the 2.62% forward yield offers a straightforward measure of prospective cash income, though the market yield will move as the share price changes. The long growth streak and A safety grade provide historical and quantitative context, but neither guarantees future dividend increases or payments.
