Safe Bulkers Raises Quarterly Dividend 25% to $0.075
Safe Bulkers increased its quarterly dividend to $0.075 per share, giving the dry-bulk carrier a 3.47% forward annual yield.
SB — Safe Bulkers, Inc.
Safe Bulkers, Inc. (NYSE: SB) increased its quarterly dividend to $0.075 per share from $0.06, a 25% rise. The shares traded ex-dividend on Aug. 13, 2026.
At the stated quarterly rate, the annual dividend is $0.30 per share. Based on a share price of $8.70, the forward annual yield is 3.47%.
The declaration accompanied a marked improvement in Safe Bulkers’ second-quarter results. Net revenue rose to $87.5 million from $65.7 million a year earlier, while net income increased to $35.2 million from $1.7 million. The company’s average daily time-charter-equivalent rate also climbed to $20,642 from $14,857, according to its second-quarter filing with the SEC.
Safe Bulkers did not attribute the higher payout to a single factor. However, the stronger earnings and charter-rate backdrop provided more favorable operating conditions when the board declared the dividend. The company also reported lower daily vessel operating expenses compared with the prior-year period.
Safe Bulkers transports dry-bulk commodities including coal, grain and iron ore on global shipping routes. Its common shares began trading on Euronext Athens in June while retaining their primary New York Stock Exchange listing. The company said the dual listing was intended to broaden its shareholder base and raise its profile among European maritime and institutional investors, according to a separate SEC filing.
What it means for income investors
The increase raises quarterly cash income by $0.015 per share and lifts the indicated annual payout to $0.30. Safe Bulkers has a dividend safety score of 68 and a B grade under the supplied methodology.
The company does not have a current consecutive annual dividend-growth streak, and its payout history includes a cut in 2015. That record is relevant because dry-bulk shipping earnings can fluctuate with charter rates, vessel utilization and global commodity demand. The new distribution therefore represents a higher current payout, but not an established pattern of uninterrupted annual growth.
