Kroger Raises Quarterly Dividend 11.43% to $0.39

The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR) increased its quarterly dividend to $0.39 per share from $0.35, an 11.43% raise. The shares traded ex-dividend on Aug. 14, 2026.

The increase extends the consumer-defensive company’s dividend-growth streak to 19 consecutive years. Kroger previously cut its dividend in 2006. At a share price of $57.72, the new payout carries a forward annual yield of 2.53%.

Kroger’s board tied the increase to confidence in the grocery retailer’s operating performance and ability to generate durable free cash flow. Chairman Ron Sargent said the action also reflected the company’s commitment to delivering long-term shareholder value. Kroger said its capital-allocation priorities include investing in the business, maintaining an investment-grade debt rating and returning capital to shareholders. Kroger’s dividend announcement

Business context

Kroger operates food and drug stores and competes through supermarkets, pharmacies, fuel centers, digital ordering and delivery services. In its latest annual filing, the company said recent performance benefited from e-commerce and pharmacy, alongside momentum in fresh products and its private-label brands. Management also highlighted price investment, tighter cost control and improved store execution as operating priorities. Kroger 2025 Form 10-K

The filing said Kroger is accelerating investment in new stores while refining its fulfillment network and reviewing non-core assets. Those initiatives compete for capital with dividends and repurchases, making management’s emphasis on balanced capital allocation relevant to the durability of shareholder distributions.

What it means for income investors

The higher quarterly rate increases the cash income attached to each Kroger share, while the 2.53% forward yield provides a standardized measure for comparing the payout with other income-producing securities. The 19-year growth streak and an A safety grade, based on a safety score of 81 out of 100, indicate a strong historical dividend profile. As with any dividend, however, future declarations remain subject to board approval and the company’s financial position.
