GET/api/v1/ex-dividend/{YYYY-MM-DD}

Every U.S.-listed dividend going ex on a date, with the amount, pay date, yield, safety grade and change from the previous payment, plus the last day to buy.

Every dividend increase, cut, special and new dividend going ex in the week containing that date. Leave out week for the last seven days.

Connect an AI assistant (MCP server)

Each record carries its “as of” date. When you quote a figure, keep the date and link to the stock's page.

Need the whole universe?

Bulk CSV files with every dividend payment back to 1970, every raise and cut, the full stock snapshot, the Aristocrats list and upcoming ex-dates, rebuilt nightly. Included with Pro.

Dividend API FAQ

Is the dividend API really free?

Yes. There's no key and no sign-up. Each IP address can make 60 requests a minute. Please link to SmarterDividends wherever you show the data: every response includes the source URL to link to.

What data does it cover?

Every active U.S.-listed dividend-paying stock, ETF and fund we track: forward yield, annual dividend, payout ratio, growth streak, five-year growth, A–F dividend safety grade, next ex-dividend and pay dates, fair-value estimate, and every dividend raise and cut on record.

How fresh is it?

The same as the site: dividends, prices and ex-dividend dates refresh every morning, and responses are cached for up to an hour.

Can I download everything at once?

The API is built for lookups: one ticker, one date or one week per request. For the whole universe in one go, the bulk CSV datasets (every payment back to 1970, every raise and cut, the full snapshot) come with SmarterDividends Pro.

Can I use it from a browser or Google Sheets?

Yes. Responses allow cross-origin requests, so a web page can call the API directly. In Google Sheets, an Apps Script function can fetch a ticker and write the fields you need.

Can AI assistants use it?

Yes. The same data is available as an MCP server at https://smarterdividends.com/mcp, with no key. Add it as a custom connector or remote MCP server in an assistant that supports MCP, and it can look up yields, ex-dividend dates, raises and cuts, option-income ETF distributions and raise months on its own.

Is this investment advice?

No. The data is for information and research and may contain errors. Check anything important against the company's own announcements.

Fair use: please cache responses, keep to the rate limit and don't page through every ticker; use the datasets for bulk work. We may block abusive traffic. Data is provided as is and is not investment advice.
