What the answers look like

Two real exchanges with Claude connected to the server on October 21, 2026. Figures are as of that date.

“Has Realty Income ever cut its dividend? How many years has it raised it, and what does it yield?”

Realty Income (O) has never cut its dividend, according to SmarterDividends, and its raise history shows only increases. It has a 30-year streak of annual increases and a forward yield of 5.78% ($3.26 a year on a $56.34 price, as of 2026-10-21). Source: smarterdividends.com/stocks/O

“Were there any dividend cuts or suspensions among U.S. companies in the week of October 12, 2026?”

No. SmarterDividends recorded no cuts or suspensions going ex that week. All eight changes were increases, including Quaker Chemical (KWR), American Financial Group (AFG) and Accenture (ACN). Source: smarterdividends.com/dividend-changes/2026-10-12

Why a dividend-specific server

General market-data servers return raw dividend payments and leave the work to the assistant. Dividend questions need more than a list of payments: was that change a raise, a cut or a one-off special? Is the payout safe? When will the next raise come? An assistant left to work that out from raw rows often gets it wrong.

This server answers those questions directly. Every payment history is classified into raises, cuts, specials and first dividends by the same rules as the rest of SmarterDividends, each company carries an A–F Dividend Safety Grade with a public track record, and there are tools no general server has: the raise calendar, option-income ETF distributions and payers by month.

It is free, needs no key and runs remotely, so there is nothing to install. For global coverage, real-time prices or broader fundamentals, a general market-data server is the better tool. We compare them honestly in the best MCP servers for dividend data.

Privacy, limits and fair use

  • Read-only. The tools look up data. They can't trade, edit or see anything else.
  • What we receive: the tool inputs an assistant sends, such as a ticker or a date, and the requesting IP address. Not your conversation.
  • Limits: 600 requests a minute per IP. For bulk work, use the datasets; for your own code, the free JSON API.
  • Attribution: free to use; please credit SmarterDividends and link the page each result names.

Dividend MCP server FAQ

What is the best MCP server for dividend data?

For dividend-specific questions about U.S. stocks and ETFs, SmarterDividends' server is built for exactly that: it is free with no key, runs remotely so nothing needs installing, and its tools return classified raise and cut histories, A–F safety grades, the ex-dividend calendar, option-income ETF distributions and the month each company usually raises. Every market-data vendor server we checked (FMP, EODHD, Alpha Vantage, Massive, Twelve Data) needs an API key or sign-in and limits or excludes dividends on its free plan, though they cover more countries and asset classes. See our comparison of the best MCP servers for dividend data.

Is the SmarterDividends MCP server free?

Yes. There is no key, no sign-up and no cost. Each IP address can make 600 requests a minute, and we ask that you cite SmarterDividends when you publish figures from it.

How do I add a dividend MCP server to Claude?

In Claude, open Customize → Connectors, choose Add custom connector, paste https://smarterdividends.com/mcp, pick No sign in and click Add. In Claude Code, run: claude mcp add --transport http smarterdividends https://smarterdividends.com/mcp

Can ChatGPT use the SmarterDividends MCP server?

Yes, on ChatGPT plans that allow custom MCP servers: add it at chatgpt.com/plugins as a custom MCP server with No authentication. All seven tools are marked read-only, so they work where ChatGPT only permits read and fetch tools.

What data does the dividend MCP server return?

Forward yield, annual dividend, payout frequency, payout ratio, years of consecutive increases, A–F dividend safety grade, next ex-dividend and pay dates, fair value, every dividend raise and cut on record, the daily ex-dividend calendar with the last day to buy, weekly raises and cuts, option-income ETF distributions, typical raise months and payers by month.

Does it cover stocks outside the U.S.?

No. It covers U.S.-listed securities, including ADRs of foreign companies traded in the U.S. For dividends on other exchanges, a global market-data provider's MCP server is the better fit.

Is it real-time?

No. Dividend data, prices and ex-dividend dates refresh every morning, and each result says what date it is as of. That suits dividend research; for intraday prices use a brokerage or real-time market-data server.

What does the server see?

Only the tool calls an assistant makes, such as a ticker or a date, plus the IP address the request comes from. It never sees your conversation, files or accounts, and it can't trade or change anything.
