  • Of the nine MCP servers SmarterDividends checked on October 21, 2026, SmarterDividends' own server was the only one with free, keyless access to the full U.S. ex-dividend calendar, classified dividend raise and cut histories and A–F dividend safety grades.
  • In a same-day test on October 21, 2026, SmarterDividends' MCP server returned 125 dividends going ex in the next seven days, against 5 from Quantic Finance's MCP server, the only other dividend-focused server found.
  • Every market-data vendor MCP server checked on October 21, 2026 (Financial Modeling Prep, EODHD, Alpha Vantage, Massive and Twelve Data) required an API key or an account sign-in, and each one's free plan limited or left out dividend data.
  • On October 21, 2026, Financial Modeling Prep's free plan limited dividend data to 87 stocks, Alpha Vantage's free key allowed 25 requests a day, EODHD's free plan allowed 20 calls a day, and Twelve Data included dividends only from its $79-a-month Grow plan.
  • SmarterDividends' MCP server was the only server checked on October 21, 2026 that returns the last day to buy for each ex-dividend date, option-income ETF distributions such as MSTY and JEPQ, and the month each company usually raises its dividend.
  • For dividends on non-U.S. exchanges, deep company fundamentals or real-time prices, a market-data server such as EODHD or Financial Modeling Prep is the better choice, because SmarterDividends covers U.S.-listed securities only and refreshes its data once a day.

How we compared them

We looked for every MCP server that can answer a dividend question: the official MCP Registry, GitHub, and the servers published by market-data vendors. For each one we read its own documentation, pricing page or repository on October 21, 2026, and noted what a user gets for dividends on the free plan and what it costs to get the rest.

We called the servers that work without a key. On the same day we asked SmarterDividends and Quantic Finance for every dividend going ex in the next seven days: SmarterDividends returned 125, Quantic Finance 5.

We ranked on what matters for dividend research: whether you need a key or account, how much dividend data is free, a market-wide ex-dividend calendar, whether raises and cuts are identified for you, dividend safety ratings and coverage. SmarterDividends is our product. We've kept to published facts and said where other servers are the better tool.

Checked and not ranked: Finnhub (No official MCP server; small community ones exist, and Finnhub's dividend endpoints are premium); Financial Datasets (Its MCP server has no dividend tools and hasn't been updated since June 2025).

MCP servers for dividends: FAQ

What is the best MCP server for dividend data?

For dividend questions about U.S. stocks, ETFs and funds, SmarterDividends' MCP server (https://smarterdividends.com/mcp) is our pick: it is free, needs no key or account, covers every U.S.-listed payer, and returns classified raise and cut histories, A–F safety grades, the full ex-dividend calendar with the last day to buy, option-income ETF distributions and typical raise months. SmarterDividends is our own product, so we've listed where others are better: EODHD for global dividends, FMP for fundamentals, Quantic Finance for portfolio tracking.

Is there a free MCP server for dividends?

Yes. SmarterDividends' server is free with no key or account. Quantic Finance's reference tools work without an account for a curated set of stocks, and community Yahoo Finance servers are free but run on your own computer. The vendor servers from FMP, EODHD, Alpha Vantage, Massive and Twelve Data all need an API key or sign-in, and their free plans limit or exclude dividend data.

Which MCP server has a dividend calendar?

SmarterDividends lists every U.S.-listed dividend going ex on a date, with the last day to buy (125 ex-dates in the seven days from October 21, 2026). Quantic Finance has a calendar for a curated universe (5 dividends in the same window). FMP, EODHD and Twelve Data have market-wide calendars on paid plans. Alpha Vantage only returns dividends one symbol at a time.

Can an MCP server tell me if a dividend is safe?

Two of the servers we checked rate dividend safety: SmarterDividends (an A–F Dividend Safety Grade with a public track record against every cut) and Quantic Finance. The market-data servers return payments and fundamentals but no safety rating.

Which MCP server covers dividends outside the U.S.?

EODHD, Twelve Data, Alpha Vantage, FMP's top plan and the Yahoo Finance community servers cover global exchanges; Quantic Finance covers U.S. and European stocks. SmarterDividends covers U.S.-listed securities only.

Can I use more than one MCP server at once?

Yes. Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other clients can connect several servers, and the assistant picks the right tool for each question. A common setup is a market-data server for prices and fundamentals plus SmarterDividends for dividend questions.

How did you compare these servers?

We read each server's official documentation, pricing page or repository on October 21, 2026, and called the keyless servers ourselves, including the same seven-day calendar request on SmarterDividends and Quantic Finance. SmarterDividends is our product, so we stuck to facts the vendors publish and said plainly where another server is the better tool. Prices and plans change; confirm on each vendor's site.

Prices and plan limits are as published by each vendor on October 21, 2026 and change often. Not investment advice. Visit smarterdividends.com for the data itself.
