Artisan Partners Asset Management Inc. raised its quarterly dividend 10.0% to $0.88 a share from $0.80. APAM shares trade ex-dividend on November 16, 2026, and the payment is due November 30, 2026.

Why the dividend changed

Artisan uses a variable-dividend policy tied to the cash the business generates each quarter. The latest distribution reflects cash generated in the third quarter and a pro-rata portion of tax savings associated with the company’s tax-receivable agreements. The board retains part of quarterly cash generation and may use it for a special dividend after year-end, subject to other demands on cash.

The increase came despite significant client withdrawals. Artisan reported third-quarter net outflows of $10.6 billion, including $1.9 billion connected with the wind-down of its U.S. Value team and $5.9 billion from the rebalancing of a large client relationship. Assets under management ended the quarter at $168.7 billion.

Revenue nevertheless rose 4% from a year earlier to $312.5 million, while adjusted earnings per share increased 1% to $1.03. Credit and alternative strategies produced $1.1 billion of net inflows, partly offsetting redemptions from public-equity strategies. Management said the balance sheet and cash generation allowed Artisan to keep investing in its platform while returning cash to shareholders.

Liquidity also supported the decision. Artisan ended the quarter with $352.4 million of cash and cash equivalents. Its newly expanded $150 million revolving credit facility was unused at quarter-end.

Dividend track record

APAM does not have a consecutive annual dividend-growth streak. Its last annual cut was in 2022, consistent with a variable payout that moves with earnings, cash generation and occasional larger payments rather than increasing mechanically every year.

Annual payments illustrate that variability. The total rose 24.8% to $4.23 in 2021, then was cut 13.2% to $3.67 in 2022. It fell another 27.5% to $2.66 in 2023 before rising 18.8% to $3.16 in 2024 and 14.9% to $3.63 in 2025. The five-year record amounts to 1.4% annual growth.

Recent quarterly payments show the same uneven pattern. The amount was $0.88 with an ex-dividend date of November 14, 2025, followed by $1.58 on February 13, 2026, $0.77 on May 15, 2026, and $0.80 on August 17, 2026. The new $0.88 payment restores the rate to its level from a year earlier but does not establish a growth streak.

Is the dividend covered?

The dividend consumes 82% of earnings. That leaves a relatively narrow accounting-earnings cushion if assets under management, fee revenue or investment performance weakens.

SmarterDividends gives the dividend a safety score of 52 and a grade of C. That falls in the borderline range of 50-65, meaning current coverage exists but offers limited protection against a material decline in the cash generated by the asset-management business.

The variable policy is important to that assessment. Artisan can reset quarterly payments as conditions change rather than defend a fixed rate through a downturn. The same flexibility that supports coverage also makes the income stream less predictable than a conventional steadily rising dividend.

Yield and valuation

APAM’s forward yield is 9.96%, above the Financial Services sector median of 5.83%. The shares have recorded a 19.1% loss over the past year, accompanying the elevated yield.

The indicated annual dividend is $3.46 a share, equivalent to $346.00 of annual income for every 100 shares. Because Artisan pays variable quarterly amounts, actual payment patterns can differ substantially between quarters.

SmarterDividends estimates fair value at $32.55 and assigns the shares a fair valuation verdict, with 3% downside to fair value.

What to watch

The immediate dates are November 16, 2026, when the shares trade ex-dividend, and November 30, 2026, when the payment is scheduled. After year-end, the board’s review of retained cash and other sources and uses will determine whether another special distribution is declared.

Operating trends will influence future variable payments. Management said the fourth quarter began with lower assets under management but a higher average fee rate because the two large third-quarter redemptions carried lower fees. Artisan also estimated that annual mutual-fund distributions not reinvested by clients would reduce assets under management by $2.5 billion.

Other items include the planned launch of Artisan’s first exchange-traded fund share classes in the fourth quarter and development of an interval-fund structure for public and private credit in 2027. Progress in credit and alternatives, further public-equity redemptions and year-end performance fees will provide the next evidence on cash generation and dividend capacity.
