Greene County Bancorp, Inc. (Nasdaq: GCBC) increased its quarterly dividend to $0.11 per share from $0.10, a 10% rise. The higher distribution equates to an annualized dividend of $0.44 per share and a 1.25% forward yield based on a share price of $35.34.

The shares traded ex-dividend on Aug. 14, 2026. The increase extends the financial-services company’s dividend-growth streak to 12 consecutive years. Its previous dividend reduction occurred in 2008.

Greene County Bancorp is the holding company for the Bank of Greene County and Greene County Commercial Bank. It provides community-banking services to individuals, businesses, municipalities and other institutions across New York’s Hudson Valley and Capital Region, according to the company’s dividend announcement.

Earnings provide context

The dividend increase followed a strong fiscal year for the Catskill, New York-based lender. Greene County Bancorp reported record net income of $41.0 million for the year ended June 30, 2026, up 31.7% from the prior year. Net income for the latest quarter reached a company record of $11.3 million, while total assets ended the fiscal year at $3.2 billion.

Management attributed improved net interest income and margins to growth in interest-earning assets, the repricing of loans and securities, and lower rates paid on deposits. Net loans increased 7.7% during the fiscal year, led mainly by commercial real estate and commercial lending. Deposits rose 2.8%, according to the company’s fiscal 2026 earnings release.

The lender also reported that shareholders’ equity increased to $277.8 million at fiscal year-end, primarily reflecting earnings and an improvement in accumulated other comprehensive loss, partly offset by dividends paid. Management said the company maintained strong capital and liquidity positions.

What it means for income investors

The increase adds $0.01 per share to each quarterly payment and $0.04 per share to the annualized dividend. The 1.25% forward yield remains modest relative to investments primarily selected for current income, but the 12-year growth record demonstrates consistency since the 2008 reduction.

SmarterDividends assigns Greene County Bancorp a dividend-safety score of 88 out of 100, corresponding to an A grade. That assessment indicates a comparatively strong safety profile, though it does not guarantee future payments or increases.
