Mueller Water Products increased its quarterly dividend 14.3% to $0.08 a share from $0.07. The shares will trade ex-dividend on November 9, 2026, and the payment is due November 19, 2026, lifting the annual dividend to $0.32 a share. The company announced the increase alongside an expanded stock-repurchase authorization.

Why the dividend changed

Mueller tied the increase to its balance sheet, cash generation and operating strategy. Chief Executive Paul McAndrew said the higher dividend reflected confidence in the company’s strategy and execution of the Mueller Operating System. He said the company’s “strong balance sheet and ability to generate cash” allowed it to keep investing while returning capital to shareholders. The board also expanded the common-stock repurchase authorization by $300 million.

The decision followed stronger fiscal third-quarter results. Net sales increased 4.1% to $395.9 million, while adjusted EBITDA increased 24.3% to $107.4 million. Management attributed the sales gain mainly to higher pricing across most product lines, partly offset by slightly lower volume. It also cited operational execution, productivity and cost management as contributors to wider margins. Mueller raised its fiscal 2026 adjusted EBITDA guidance while acknowledging slower new residential construction activity and broader external uncertainty.

Cash generation provides additional context. Mueller reported $110.6 million of free cash flow for the first nine months of fiscal 2026, compared with $103.0 million in the prior-year period, even as capital spending increased because of investments in its iron foundries. It ended June with $495.3 million of cash and cash equivalents and $452.9 million of debt. Management reiterated that fiscal 2026 free cash flow would exceed 70% of adjusted net income.

Dividend track record

The increase extends Mueller Water’s dividend-growth streak to 11 consecutive years. Its five-year record amounts to 4.8% annual growth, making the latest 14.3% increase considerably larger than the recent pace.

The payment history shows a methodical progression before the latest step-up. Quarterly distributions were $0.067 from November 8, 2024, through August 12, 2025, followed by four payments of $0.07 from November 10, 2025, through August 10, 2026. The new $0.08 rate therefore marks a larger increment than the preceding increase.

Full-year totals tell the same story. Annual distributions rose from $0.21 a share in 2020 to $0.22 in 2021, $0.24 in 2022, $0.25 in 2023, $0.26 in 2024 and $0.27 in 2025. The annual increases ranged from 4.2% to 5.4% during that period, with no annual decline from 2020 through 2025.

Is the dividend covered?

The dividend consumes 20% of earnings. That payout ratio indicates earnings cover the distribution by a wide margin and leave substantial capacity for reinvestment, debt service and other capital returns.

SmarterDividends rates the dividend A with a safety score of 95. That falls within the very safe range of score 80-100. The grade reflects the low earnings payout, the established growth record and a payment that remains modest relative to the company’s profit base. It does not mean the dividend is guaranteed, but it indicates that current coverage is strong.

The latest operating results reinforce that assessment. Higher free cash flow and a cash balance exceeding reported debt gave the board room to raise the dividend while also expanding its repurchase program. The simultaneous actions show that Mueller is distributing capital through both recurring cash payments and discretionary buybacks.

Yield and valuation

At a share price of $22.46, the new annual dividend produces a forward yield of 1.42%. That is below the Industrials sector median forward yield of 1.63%, so the shares provide less current dividend income than the sector midpoint despite the larger payment.

The annual income from 100 shares is $32.00. The yield remains primarily a supplement to shareholder return rather than a high-income proposition, while the 11-year growth streak provides the more distinctive feature of the dividend record.

SmarterDividends estimates fair value at $28.31 and classifies the shares as undervalued, representing 27% upside to fair value. The stock’s one-year price return is an 8.2% loss. These valuation measures are separate from dividend safety: the A safety grade addresses payment coverage, while the fair-value estimate compares the market price with an estimate of underlying value.

What to watch

Mueller is scheduled to report fiscal fourth-quarter and full-year 2026 results after the market closes on November 4, 2026, followed by its earnings call on November 5, 2026. Those results will show whether the company finished the year within its latest sales and adjusted EBITDA guidance and provide an updated view of cash generation.

Dividend investors should also track the November 9, 2026, ex-dividend date and the November 19, 2026, payment. Beyond the immediate distribution, the main items are management’s fiscal 2027 outlook, foundry investment requirements, demand from municipal water customers and the effect of slower residential construction. The pace of repurchases under the expanded authorization will show how management balances buybacks, internal investment and the higher recurring dividend.
