The Wendy’s Company (NASDAQ: WEN) cut its quarterly dividend to $0.07 per share from $0.14, a 50% reduction. The shares traded ex-dividend on Sept. 1, 2026.

At the new rate, Wendy’s indicated annual dividend is $0.28 per share. That represents a forward annual yield of 3.37% based on a share price of $8.27.

The reduction came as Wendy’s withdrew its 2026 outlook and said the lower payout would support its turnaround. In its second-quarter report, the company said global systemwide sales declined, driven by weakness in the United States, while new leadership began assessing the business and how best to deploy capital. Wendy’s identified menu value, marketing, restaurant operations, digital engagement and restaurant development as areas of focus. Wendy’s second-quarter results

The company’s regulatory filing said higher advertising expenses, increased costs at company-operated restaurants and greater franchise-support costs weighed on its U.S. segment. Wendy’s nevertheless said available cash and operating cash flow were expected to cover operating requirements over the following year. Wendy’s Form 10-Q

A second reduction

The latest action follows a previous dividend cut in 2025, leaving Wendy’s with no consecutive years of dividend growth. The earlier reset formed part of an updated capital-allocation policy as the company confronted pressure on restaurant traffic and consumer demand.

Wendy’s subsequently launched “Project Fresh,” a strategic plan aimed at revitalizing the brand, improving restaurant economics and accelerating growth. The company has also been addressing underperforming locations and sharpening its focus on everyday value as inflation-sensitive customers remain cautious. Wendy’s Project Fresh announcement

What it means for income investors

The cut immediately reduces the recurring income attached to each Wendy’s share. Although the new payout still provides a 3.37% forward yield at the stated share price, the second reduction since 2025 underscores the variability of the dividend while management directs more cash toward the turnaround.

Wendy’s carries a dividend safety score of 51 out of 100 and a safety grade of C. Those measures, together with the reset payout and absent growth streak, frame the dividend as a lower cash commitment for the company but a materially smaller income stream for shareholders.
