Ardmore Shipping Sets Special Quarterly Dividend

Ardmore Shipping Corporation (ASC) set a special quarterly dividend of $0.39 per share, up from the prior $0.09 per share, with the stock trading ex-dividend on May 29, 2026.

The tanker operator’s dividend action follows a broader capital-allocation update in which the company said it was increasing the share of adjusted earnings it returns to common shareholders. Ardmore said the policy change was effective for the first quarter of 2026 and tied the larger payout to stronger operating conditions in its product and chemical tanker markets. The company also pointed to fleet investment plans and a vessel sale as part of the same capital-allocation update. Ardmore’s April 29 update

Company Context

Ardmore owns and operates product and chemical tankers serving global petroleum-product and chemical transportation markets. In its annual-report filing announcement, the company described its fleet as modern and fuel-efficient, serving oil majors, national oil companies, traders and chemical companies through voyage charters, commercial pools and time charters. The latest dividend comes after Ardmore reported improved first-quarter results and said freight rates had continued to strengthen into the second quarter. Management also cited a strategy focused on capital allocation, fleet investment, vessel sales and balance-sheet discipline. Ardmore first-quarter results

The dividend remains variable in character rather than a traditional steady-growth payout. The locked dividend record shows no consecutive annual dividend-growth streak, and notes that Ardmore previously cut its dividend in 2025. SmarterDividends assigns the payout a safety score of 61 out of 100, equivalent to a C grade.

What It Means For Income Investors

For income investors, the $0.39 special quarterly payout materially lifts near-term cash income from the prior $0.09 rate. Based on the locked data, Ardmore’s annual dividend per share is $0.65, and the forward annual yield is 3.81% at a share price of $17.08.

The key caveat is durability. Ardmore’s dividend is tied to adjusted earnings and tanker-market conditions, which can move sharply with freight rates, vessel supply, trade flows and geopolitical disruptions. That makes the payout more cyclical than the dividend profiles of companies with long records of annual increases. The new distribution is meaningful for current income, but the company’s own policy framework suggests future payments may continue to fluctuate with earnings and market conditions.
