Black Stone Minerals, L.P. raised its quarterly cash distribution 9.4% to $0.35 per common unit from $0.32. Units go ex-dividend on November 6, 2026, and the distribution is payable on November 13, 2026.

Why the dividend changed

Black Stone attributed the increase to continued operating strength and favorable commodity prices. Co-CEO and President Taylor DeWalch said the partnership remained focused on maintaining distribution coverage and financial flexibility, indicating that management views the higher payout as part of its capital-return framework rather than a one-time special distribution. The declaration did not involve a split, merger or spin-off.

The latest reported quarter provides the financial context. Second-quarter net income was $106.4 million, adjusted EBITDA was $91.3 million and distributable cash flow was $80.4 million. Distributable cash flow increased from $76.5 million in the first quarter even though mineral and royalty production declined 9% sequentially to 32.5 MBoe/d, primarily because of lower Haynesville natural-gas volumes. Black Stone also reduced borrowings under its credit facility from $196.0 million at June 30 to $168.0 million at July 31. The quarterly results and Form 10-Q show that cash generation improved despite lower production.

Black Stone is also directing capital toward mineral and royalty interests around its East Texas development areas. It acquired $37.2 million of primarily non-producing interests during the second quarter, bringing acquisitions since September 2023 to $299.7 million. Its development partners were advancing wells in the Shelby Trough, Haynesville expansion and southern Delaware Basin. A separate agreement with Caturus Energy created a multiyear drilling program intended to expand natural-gas development in the Shelby Trough. Those projects matter because royalty production, commodity prices and leasing income determine the cash available for distributions.

Dividend track record

The latest increase continues a recovery in the quarterly payment, but it does not restore a continuous growth streak. Black Stone paid $0.375 for the November 8, 2024, February 18, 2025, and May 8, 2025, ex-dividend dates. It then cut the payment to $0.30 for August 7, 2025, and maintained that amount through May 8, 2026. The distribution rose to $0.32 for August 6, 2026, before the latest increase to $0.35.

Annual totals show the same variability. Payments increased from $0.68 in 2020 to $0.85 in 2021, $1.54 in 2022 and $1.90 in 2023. The annual total then fell 15.8% to $1.60 in 2024 and fell another 15.6% to $1.35 in 2025. The last annual cut occurred in 2025, leaving the consecutive growth streak at 0 years, even though the five-year record is 17.6% annual growth. The pattern reflects a commodity-sensitive distribution rather than a fixed policy of annual increases.

Is the dividend covered?

The payout ratio is 100% of earnings. That means the distribution consumes all reported earnings on this measure, leaving no accounting-earnings cushion if profits weaken. For a mineral and royalty partnership, distributable cash flow can differ materially from net income because of noncash derivative gains, depletion and other accounting items, so subsequent cash-flow disclosures remain important.

SmarterDividends rates the dividend C, with a safety score of 50. That is borderline (50-65), reflecting limited coverage rather than evidence of an imminent reduction. The rating is consistent with the partnership’s recent history of adjusting distributions as commodity conditions and cash generation change.

Yield and valuation

The forward yield is 8.19%, compared with the Energy sector median forward yield of 3.95%. The higher yield provides more current income but also reflects the market’s recognition that Black Stone’s distribution has varied with energy prices and operating results.

At a share price of $14.80, SmarterDividends estimates fair value at $21.28 and classifies the units as undervalued, with 42% upside to fair value. The one-year price return is a 6.7% gain. These valuation figures are separate from the distribution’s coverage and do not eliminate its exposure to commodity cycles.

What to watch

Black Stone is scheduled to release third-quarter results after the market closes on November 2, 2026, followed by a conference call on November 3, 2026. The report will provide the first detailed financial support for management’s statement that performance and commodity prices justified the latest increase. Distributable cash flow, production, credit-facility borrowings and updated development activity are the central items to monitor. The distribution announcement sets out that reporting schedule.

Operationally, attention remains on the pace at which Adamas, Revenant, Caturus and Blue Arrow bring wells online across Black Stone’s development areas. For income holders, the immediate dates are November 6, 2026, when the units trade ex-dividend, and November 13, 2026, when the $0.35 distribution is payable.
