Canadian Natural Resources Limited (CNQ) increased its quarterly dividend to $0.452 per share from $0.442, a 2.26% rise. The new distribution carried an ex-dividend date of Sept. 11, 2026.

The energy producer’s annual dividend is $1.78 per share, representing a forward yield of 3.5% at a share price of $50.07. The increase extends Canadian Natural’s run of annual dividend growth to 10 consecutive years. The company previously reduced its payout in 2015.

The latest increase is modest in percentage terms, but it continues a record of measured dividend growth. Canadian Natural has a market capitalization of approximately $103.22 billion and operates a diversified portfolio spanning natural gas, conventional oil, thermal oil sands, and oil-sands mining and upgrading.

The company describes its asset base as concentrated in Western Canada, the U.K. North Sea and offshore Africa. It says its mix of long-life, low-decline assets and shorter-cycle operations supports cash-flow generation and flexibility in allocating capital. Canadian Natural Resources: Who We Are

Canadian Natural’s broader capital-allocation framework balances shareholder returns with debt reduction, investment in its resource base and acquisitions. The company also emphasizes maintaining an investment-grade balance sheet and retaining control over the pace of development across its operated assets. Canadian Natural Resources: Our Strategy

Recent operating commentary provides context for the payout decision. In its first-quarter update, management cited efficient operations, healthy commodity prices and continued adjusted-funds-flow generation as factors supporting debt reduction and shareholder returns. Those conditions can strengthen dividend capacity, although oil and natural-gas prices remain inherently volatile. Canadian Natural Announces 2026 First Quarter Results

What it means for income investors

The higher rate adds $0.010 per share to each quarterly payment compared with the previous dividend. The 3.5% forward yield describes the annual payout relative to the stated share price; an investor’s realized yield will vary as the stock price changes.

The dividend carries a safety score of 74 out of 100 and a B grade. Those measures indicate a comparatively solid payout profile, but they do not eliminate the risks associated with commodity prices, operating costs and capital requirements. Investors purchasing shares on or after the Sept. 11 ex-dividend date would not qualify for the associated distribution.
