EQT Corporation raised its quarterly dividend 3.0% to $0.17 per share from $0.165. The stock’s next ex-dividend date is November 4, 2026, and the payment date is December 1, 2026.

Why the dividend changed

EQT tied the higher base dividend to structural improvements rather than a temporary increase in natural gas prices. In its latest results, the company said the payout’s durability is underpinned by material cost-structure improvements and captured synergies. That framing matters for an exploration and production company because commodity prices can move sharply, while lower recurring costs can support cash generation across a wider range of market conditions. EQT’s third-quarter results provide the company’s explanation.

The operating backdrop was mixed but cash-generative. EQT reported third-quarter net cash from operating activities of $1,083 million and free cash flow attributable to EQT of $283 million. Capital expenditures were $638 million, which the company said was 10% below the low end of its guidance because of lower upstream and midstream spending and continuing efficiency gains. CEO Toby Rice said marketing improved realized pricing despite pressure on natural gas prices, while operating expenses landed at the low end of guidance. The quarterly release supports those points.

The increase is not a stock-split adjustment or a merger conversion. It is an increase in EQT’s regular base dividend. The pending acquisition of Range Resources is a separate all-stock transaction announced after the dividend declaration. EQT says the combination would deepen its Appalachian inventory and reduce its cost structure, but closing remains subject to shareholder and regulatory approvals. The dividend declaration and the Range transaction filing establish that sequence.

Dividend track record

The latest increase extends EQT’s dividend-growth streak to 4 consecutive years. The payment record shows a stepwise pattern: four quarterly payments of $0.158 from November 6, 2024, through August 6, 2025, followed by four payments of $0.165 from November 5, 2025, through August 5, 2026. The new $0.17 rate is the next step in that progression.

Full-year totals show growth slowing as the payout base expanded. Annual dividends rose to $0.61 in 2023, $0.63 in 2024 and $0.64 in 2025. Those changes were 10.5%, 4.0% and 1.1%, respectively. The 3.0% increase in the new quarterly rate is larger than the most recent full-year change but remains measured. EQT’s last annual dividend cut was in 2013, so the current growth run follows a much older reduction rather than an uninterrupted multidecade record.

Is the dividend covered?

The dividend uses 15% of earnings. That is a low earnings payout ratio, leaving most reported profit outside the common dividend and providing room for debt reduction, capital spending and other corporate uses. It also limits the immediate pressure on the payout when earnings fluctuate, although an energy producer’s coverage can still change with gas prices, production and costs.

SmarterDividends assigns EQT a dividend safety score of 78 and a B grade. The grade falls in the safe range of 66-79. In plain terms, current earnings coverage and the company’s recent payment pattern support the dividend, while the grade stops short of the highest tier because coverage must be judged against a cyclical commodity business and its capital requirements.

Yield and valuation

At a $56.27 share price, EQT’s forward dividend yield is 1.24%. That is well below the Energy sector median forward yield of 3.95%, so the stock provides less current dividend income than the sector midpoint. The annual dividend is $0.68 per share, equal to $68.00 of annual income per 100 shares.

SmarterDividends estimates fair value at $65.23 and classifies the shares as undervalued, with 17% upside to that estimate. The shares have recorded an 8.6% loss over one year. The fair-value figure is a valuation reference, not a forecast, and the lower-than-sector yield remains the more direct measure of current dividend income.

What to watch

The immediate dates are November 4, 2026, when the shares trade ex-dividend, and December 1, 2026, when the new payment is due. After that, coverage will depend on the cash generated by EQT’s operating plan and the capital required to execute it.

For the fourth quarter, EQT guided to sales volume of 550 to 600 Bcfe, including 10 to 20 Bcfe of strategic curtailments. It also projected maintenance capital expenditures of $540 million to $610 million and strategic growth capital expenditures of $185 million to $225 million. Those are the operating inputs to monitor in the next results because they affect free cash flow available after investment. EQT’s guidance contains the ranges.

The Range acquisition is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027, subject to required approvals and customary conditions. Until closing, investors can track the shareholder votes, regulatory clearances and any updated integration or financing disclosures. The transaction is all-stock, so the central dividend question is how the enlarged company’s cash generation, cost base and share count affect future coverage after the deal closes. The SEC-filed transaction announcement details the conditions and timetable.
