Mercantile Bank Corporation increased its quarterly dividend to $0.40 per share from $0.39, a 2.56% rise. Shares traded ex-dividend on Sept. 4, 2026.

The increase extends the Grand Rapids, Michigan-based bank holding company’s record of consecutive dividend growth to 14 years. Mercantile previously reduced its dividend in 2009.

Mercantile’s latest increase comes against a backdrop of stronger operating results. In its second-quarter report, the company cited expanding net interest income, commercial loan growth, lower funding costs and continued strength in asset quality and capital levels. President and Chief Executive Officer Ray Reitsma said the company’s financial condition enabled it to maintain its regular cash-dividend program and increase the third-quarter distribution. The company is the holding company for Mercantile Bank and Eastern Michigan Bank, serving businesses, individuals and government customers in Michigan. Mercantile completed its acquisition of Eastern Michigan Financial Corporation at the end of 2025, expanding its presence in eastern and southeastern parts of the state. The two banking subsidiaries are expected to operate separately until a planned consolidation in 2027, subject to regulatory approval. Mercantile Bank’s merger-completion announcement

The company’s latest regulatory filing also shows that Mercantile and Eastern Michigan Bank remained classified as well capitalized at the end of the second quarter, an important consideration for a regulated bank’s ability to return cash to shareholders. Mercantile Bank’s second-quarter Form 10-Q

What it means for income investors

At a share price of $60.03, the dividend carries a stated forward annual yield of 2.6%. The payout has an income-safety score of 83 out of 100, corresponding to an A grade.

For shareholders focused on income, the increase provides a higher quarterly payment while preserving Mercantile’s 14-year growth streak. The safety assessment and recent capital position offer context for the payout, though neither eliminates the operational and credit risks associated with regional banking.
