- The annualized distribution is $4.84, providing $484.00 of annual income for every 100 units.

- The 90% earnings payout ratio accompanies an A safety grade and a safety score of 80.
MPLX LP raised its quarterly cash distribution 12.5% to $1.2111 per common unit from $1.077. The units are scheduled to trade ex-dividend on November 6, 2026, with payment set for November 13, 2026.
Why the dividend changed
The declaration release did not give a detailed rationale, but the increase follows management’s previously stated plan for a larger 2026 distribution. The decision is supported by cash generation from MPLX’s pipeline, logistics, natural-gas processing and natural gas liquids operations, alongside new infrastructure entering service.
Second-quarter net income attributable to MPLX rose to $1.077 billion from $1.048 billion a year earlier. Distributable cash flow increased to $1.450 billion from $1.420 billion, while adjusted EBITDA advanced to $1.775 billion from $1.690 billion. The Natural Gas and NGL Services segment produced the largest increase, reflecting higher volumes from equity affiliates and acquisitions, partly offset by the earlier divestiture of noncore gathering and processing assets.
Chief Executive Maryann Mannen said second-quarter performance reflected progress integrating projects across MPLX’s natural-gas and NGL value chains. She cited additional projects entering service in the second half and rising utilization as factors supporting the business.
MPLX is also spending more heavily on expansion. It increased its 2026 growth-capital outlook by $500 million to $2.9 billion, primarily to accelerate Gulf Coast fractionation capacity. More than 90% of planned organic growth capital is directed toward natural-gas and NGL infrastructure, with projects concentrated in the Permian and Marcellus basins. That program competes for cash with distributions, but it is intended to add fee-based infrastructure and future cash flow.
Dividend track record
The new rate follows four consecutive payments of $1.077, beginning with the November 7, 2025, ex-dividend date. The four preceding payments were $0.957. The pattern shows that MPLX has recently favored substantial annual step-ups rather than small increases every quarter.
Full-year distributions rose from $3.18 per unit in 2023 to $3.51 in 2024, an increase of 10.5%. The 2025 total reached $3.95, up 12.6%. The latest increase brings the annualized distribution to $4.84 and extends the growth streak to 4 years. Over five years, the distribution recorded 6.8% annual growth.
The longer record is not perfectly linear. Annual payments climbed 21.5% to $3.34 in 2021, then fell 13.6% to $2.89 in 2022 before resuming their rise. That history makes the current streak more informative than a simple comparison with the earliest annual total: recent growth has been consistent, but the annual payment has varied when viewed across the full period.
Is the dividend covered?
The distribution consumes 90% of earnings. That is a high accounting payout ratio, leaving a relatively narrow earnings cushion if results weaken. For a midstream partnership, however, net income is only one measure of capacity because depreciation and other noncash charges can make earnings less representative of cash available for distributions.
SmarterDividends rates the dividend A, with a safety score of 80. That falls in the “very safe” range of 80-100. The grade indicates that the broader mix of payment history, business characteristics and financial capacity is stronger than the 90% earnings payout ratio alone might suggest.
MPLX’s latest results add context without removing the need to monitor spending. The partnership generated positive distributable cash flow while advancing a capital-intensive expansion plan. Its regulatory filing said existing liquidity sources were expected to meet capital spending, contractual obligations and quarterly cash distributions. The absence of a free-cash-flow payout ratio means the earnings ratio and reported cash-generation trends carry more weight in assessing coverage.
Yield and valuation
At a share price of $58.93, MPLX has a forward yield of 7.34%. That compares with a 3.96% median forward yield for the Energy sector. The gap provides more current income than the sector median, while also reflecting the partnership structure, capital requirements and risks associated with midstream energy operations.
The annualized distribution is $4.84 per unit, equivalent to $484.00 of annual income for every 100 units at the current rate. MPLX units recorded an 8.8% gain over the past year.
SmarterDividends estimates fair value at $96.05 and classifies the units as undervalued, with 62% upside to that estimate. Fair value is an analytical estimate rather than a forecast or assurance of a future market price.
What to watch
The immediate dates are November 6, 2026, when the units are scheduled to trade ex-dividend, and November 13, 2026, when the distribution is due to be paid. Investors also have MPLX’s next earnings report as the principal checkpoint for distributable cash flow, leverage and distribution coverage following the increase.
Operational milestones include expansion of sour-gas treating capacity at the Titan complex and the BANGL NGL pipeline, both scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026 in MPLX’s latest project update. Progress on the Gulf Coast fractionation and export program will also show how the partnership is balancing its larger distribution with its increased growth-capital plan.
