Western Alliance Bancorporation raised its quarterly common dividend 9.5% to $0.46 a share from $0.42. The next ex-dividend date is November 12, 2026, and payment is scheduled for November 27, 2026.

Why the dividend changed

Western Alliance’s dividend filing did not give a specific reason for the increase. It described the payout as a regular quarterly cash dividend approved by unanimous written consent of the board. The filing did not link the action to a stock split, merger, spin-off or special distribution.

The increase followed a quarter of higher earnings, a wider net interest margin and improving credit measures. Western Alliance reported third-quarter net income of $277.2 million and diluted earnings of $2.45 a share, compared with $260.5 million and $2.28 a share a year earlier. Net interest income increased to $807.6 million, while the net interest margin widened to 3.57% from 3.53% in the preceding quarter. The company’s results attributed the improvement to higher asset yields and loan balances, partly offset by higher funding costs.

Chief Executive Kenneth Vecchione said the quarter featured better profitability, lower deposit costs, improved asset quality and stronger reserve coverage. He also said Western Alliance continued to prioritize shareholder returns, repurchasing $92 million of shares. The dividend filing did not explicitly connect those developments to the increase, but the timing is consistent with stronger earnings and the company’s broader capital-return program.

Dividend track record

The latest increase extends Western Alliance’s dividend-growth streak to 5 consecutive years. Dividend growth has averaged 8.7% annual growth over five years, although the pace has varied substantially by year.

Annual payments increased from $1.00 a share in 2020 to $1.20 in 2021, a 20.0% increase. The total rose to $1.42 in 2022, up 18.3%, before growth slowed. Payments reached $1.45 in 2023, up 2.1%, $1.49 in 2024, up 2.8%, and $1.56 in 2025, up 4.7%. The annual dividend per share measure is $1.68.

The recent payment record shows a stair-step pattern rather than increases every quarter. Western Alliance paid $0.38 for four consecutive quarters from November 15, 2024, through August 14, 2025. It then paid $0.42 for four quarters from November 13, 2025, through August 13, 2026. The move to $0.46 begins the next step in that sequence.

Is the dividend covered?

The dividend consumes 19% of earnings. That is a relatively restrained earnings payout, meaning most reported profit remains within the company for lending, credit reserves, capital requirements and other uses.

SmarterDividends scores the dividend 78 and rates it B, placing it in the safe (66-79) range. In plain terms, the grade indicates that current earnings coverage provides a meaningful cushion, while recognizing that a bank’s dividend also depends on asset quality, regulatory capital and funding conditions.

Those supporting measures were broadly stable in the latest quarter. Western Alliance reported a common equity tier 1 capital ratio of 10.9%. Nonaccrual loans declined to 0.79% of funded held-for-investment loans, while allowance coverage of nonaccrual loans increased to 118%. Its quarterly filing also showed that total deposits were $81.8 billion and that deposit optimization was reducing higher-cost balances.

Yield and valuation

At a share price of $78.47, Western Alliance has a 2.19% forward yield. That is below the 5.92% median forward yield for the Financial Services sector. The comparison shows that the shares provide less current dividend income than the sector median despite the latest increase. The company’s market value is $8.4 billion, and the shares have recorded a 6.4% loss over one year.

SmarterDividends estimates fair value at $152.02 and classifies the stock as undervalued, representing 99% upside to fair value. That estimate is a valuation measure rather than a forecast or assurance of a future market price.

What to watch

The immediate dates are November 12, 2026, when the shares next trade ex-dividend, and November 27, 2026, when the payment is due. Investors receiving the dividend can also track whether the new $0.46 rate remains in place at the following quarterly declaration.

Western Alliance’s next earnings report will provide updated evidence on the variables supporting the payout. The principal items are earnings, net interest margin, deposit costs, loan growth, charge-offs, reserve coverage and regulatory capital. The company said third-quarter net charge-offs fell to 0.30%, the midpoint of its 2026 guidance range, but it continued to build reserves for loan growth and macroeconomic risks associated with the higher-rate environment. Future capital allocation will also reflect the balance between dividends and share repurchases.
