Simply Safe Dividends Alternatives: 7 Options Compared (2026)
By SmarterDividends Team · November 6, 2026 · Updated November 6, 2026
Simply Safe Dividends alternatives split into three groups, depending on what you use the service for. As of November 2026, Simply Safe Dividends costs $468 a year (annual billing only) for its Dividend Safety Scores, research and portfolio tracker. If you mainly want safety grades and dividend cut alerts for less, SmarterDividends Pro ($99 a year) and Track Your Dividends Premium ($99.99 a year) are the closest matches. For broker-synced tracking, Snowball Analytics and Sharesight are stronger, and SmarterDividends, Snowball and Sharesight all have free plans.
Before switching, it helps to be clear about what you would give up. Simply Safe Dividends is a good product with a long record, and for some investors it is still the right pick.

What Simply Safe Dividends does well
The core of Simply Safe Dividends is its Dividend Safety Scores, which cover individual stocks and closed-end funds. The scores come with analyst-written research, and the company says it has been tracking their results since 2015. Its own claim, on its homepage: "Since 2015, our Dividend Safety Scores have avoided 97% of dividend cuts." That is the vendor's figure, not ours, but a long public record is a real strength and few rivals can match its length.
Around the scores sits a full toolkit. As of November 6, 2026, the service lists an income calendar and forecast, unlimited portfolios, alerts for dividend changes, valuation charts, stock and closed-end fund screeners, 10-year financial charts, S&P credit ratings, and a newsletter with model portfolios. You can add holdings through daily brokerage sync, spreadsheet import or manual entry, according to its own blog posts.
Simply Safe Dividends price, trial and refund
As of November 6, 2026, the price is $468 a year, shown as "$39 per month" and "Billed annually for $468". Its FAQ says plainly: "We offer an annual subscription only." The subscription renews automatically, with a reminder email two weeks before renewal.
There is a 14-day free trial with no credit card required, and a 60-day money-back guarantee for first-time subscribers. That guarantee is generous. If you are curious, you can try the full product for two weeks and still have a refund window after paying.
Why people look for alternatives
Three reasons come up most often:
- The price. $468 a year is a lot if your portfolio is modest, or if you only check safety ratings a few times a quarter.
- There is no free plan and no monthly option, so you commit to a full year.
- There is no native mobile app. A vendor post from July 2023 says its app "isn't in the Apple App Store or Google Play"; you add the web app to your home screen instead.
If none of those bother you, there may be no reason to switch.
Simply Safe Dividends vs SmarterDividends
SmarterDividends is our own product, so read this table with that in mind. We have tried to make it accurate in both directions. Figures are as of November 6, 2026.
| Simply Safe Dividends | SmarterDividends | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | $468/yr, annual only | Free plan; Pro $99/yr, annual only |
| Free plan | None | Free research on 8,000+ U.S. stocks, ETFs and funds; tracker for 10 holdings |
| Trial | 14 days, no credit card | 7 days of Pro, no credit card |
| Refund | 60-day guarantee, first-time subscribers | 14-day money-back guarantee |
| Safety ratings | Dividend Safety Scores for stocks and closed-end funds, with analyst research | A–F grades from a 0–100 formula score, stocks only, no analyst commentary |
| Track record | Vendor claims 97% of cuts avoided since 2015 | Every cut logged against the prior grade, published on our site; a much shorter record |
| Dividend alerts | Alerts for dividend changes | Pro: email the day a holding raises, cuts, suspends or declares a special |
| Portfolios | Unlimited | Free: 1 portfolio. Pro: up to 10, combined view |
| Broker sync | Daily brokerage sync, spreadsheet import, manual entry | No automatic sync; paste holdings or upload a brokerage CSV |
| Research extras | Valuation charts, screeners, S&P credit ratings, model portfolios, newsletter | Fair-value estimates, screeners, dividend history back to 1970, raise calendar, free weekly newsletter |
The honest summary: Simply Safe Dividends gives you analyst judgment, closed-end fund coverage, broker sync and a record going back to 2015. We give you a formula-based grade, cut alerts and a lot of free research for about a fifth of the price, but no broker sync and a short record.
If you want cheaper safety grades and cut alerts
This is the most common reason people search for Simply Safe Dividends alternatives, and it is where we fit best.
SmarterDividends
SmarterDividends is an independent dividend research site. Every graded U.S. dividend stock gets an A–F Dividend Safety Grade, free on its public page with no account. The grade comes from a 0–100 score built from payout coverage, free cash flow, balance-sheet strength, dividend history and the yield versus the stock's own history. You can browse the safest dividend stocks or filter by grade in the dividend screener.
Cost, as of November 6, 2026: the research and a tracker for up to 10 holdings in one portfolio are free. Pro costs $99 a year (annual only), with a 7-day free trial that needs no credit card and a 14-day money-back guarantee. Pro adds unlimited holdings, up to 10 portfolios in a combined view, the safety grade on every holding, email alerts the day a holding raises, cuts, suspends or declares a special dividend, fair-value crossing alerts, a 12-month income forecast and bulk CSV datasets.
What it does well is accountability. We log every dividend cut against the grade the company held beforehand and publish it, misses included, at our safety track record. As of November 6, 2026, only 8% of the dividend stocks we grade are rated D or F, yet 52% of the cuts recorded since April 2026 came from companies graded D or F beforehand. The weekly list of dividend raises and cuts is free too.
The limitation: there is no automatic brokerage sync. You paste tickers and share counts or upload a CSV export, and you update it when you trade. Our grades also cover stocks, not closed-end funds, and they carry no analyst write-up.
Pick it if you want to know which of your dividends look shaky, and hear about a cut the day it happens, without paying $468 a year.
Track Your Dividends
Track Your Dividends is a tracker built around linked accounts. As of November 6, 2026, Premium costs $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year, and there is a free plan. Everyone gets a 7-day free trial.
For dividend investors, the draw is the combination: linked accounts through SnapTrade or Plaid, updated daily, plus a TYD Dividend Safety Score on Premium. The free plan includes basic dividend alerts, future value projections and one linked account, with ads. Premium adds unlimited linked accounts and what it calls hand-picked dividend alerts.
The limitation is that the free plan shows ads and links only one account, and there is no native app (its support site says "we do not have an app").
Pick it if you want a safety score and broker linking in one place at roughly the same price as SmarterDividends Pro.
Yahoo Finance
Yahoo Finance portfolios are free and log dividends automatically once you add a transaction. Dividend scores with peer benchmarks are a paid feature. As of November 6, 2026, they start at the Silver plan, $239.40 a year ($19.95 a month billed yearly). Bronze is $95.40 a year and Gold is $479.40 a year, with a 7-day trial on Gold only.
The limitation: Yahoo's portfolios have no dividend calendar or income forecast that we could find, and the dividend score needs Silver. That makes it cheaper than Simply Safe Dividends but more than double the price of the two options above.
Pick it if you already pay for Yahoo Finance and mostly want the score next to quotes you watch anyway.
If you want broker-synced tracking
If what you value most is that your holdings update themselves, these are better fits than we are.
Snowball Analytics
Snowball Analytics is a portfolio tracker with strong broker sync and multi-portfolio analytics. As of November 6, 2026, there is a free plan, then Starter at $79.99 a year, Investor at $149.99 a year and Expert at $249.99 a year. Monthly billing is $7.99, $14.99 and $24.99. Paid plans have a 14-day trial with no credit card.
It does a lot well: automatic sync with 1,000+ brokers through Plaid, Yodlee and SnapTrade on Starter and up, a dividend calendar on every plan, a month-by-month income forecast, and iOS and Android apps with home screen widgets. Starter and up include a dividend rating that ranks financial health and payout ratio to flag vulnerable payouts.
The limitation is that the free plan caps you at one portfolio and 10 holdings with no automatic sync, and multiple portfolios start at Investor. Our Snowball Analytics alternatives guide covers its plans in more detail.
Pick it if you hold accounts at several brokers and want them all synced in one app.
Sharesight
Sharesight is the strongest choice here for performance and tax reporting. As of November 6, 2026, it has a free plan, then Starter at $7 a month, Standard at $18 a month and Premium at $23.25 a month, all billed annually (monthly billing is $9.33, $24 and $31). Its investor-plan pricing pages don't mention a free trial.
It records dividends and adjustments automatically on every plan, imports trades from confirmation emails, and includes tax reports on all paid plans. Standard and Premium add a Future Income report, multi-currency valuation and contribution analysis.
The limitation for a U.S. dividend investor: the dividend forecast needs Standard, the free plan has no tax reports, and Sharesight's plans are described around performance and tax rather than dividend safety. See our Sharesight alternatives piece if you are weighing it.
Pick it if you need performance and tax reports, especially with holdings in more than one currency.
Track Your Dividends, covered above, also belongs in this group because of its daily linked-account updates.
If you want something free
You can cover a lot of what Simply Safe Dividends does without paying anything, as long as you accept some manual work.
SmarterDividends free
No account is needed for the research: dividend history back to 1970 where records exist, an ex-dividend calendar, a dividend raise calendar, fair-value estimates, the A–F grade on public stock pages, two screeners and calculators such as a dividend income calculator. A free account adds a tracker for 10 holdings in one portfolio. The weekly newsletter is free as well. The catch is the same as for Pro: no broker sync, and no cut alerts until you upgrade.
Snowball Analytics and Sharesight free plans
Both free plans hold 10 holdings in one portfolio, as of November 6, 2026. Snowball's free plan includes the dividend calendar; Sharesight's includes automatic dividend recording plus Performance and Sold Securities reports. Neither includes the extras covered above, such as Snowball's dividend rating or Sharesight's Future Income report.
Empower Personal Dashboard
Empower's dashboard and tools are free, as of November 6, 2026, and link all your financial accounts. It is a net worth and retirement-planning tool, not a dividend tool: we found no dividend calendar, forecast or safety data, and investment income shows up as one line. Signing up also opts you into marketing calls from Empower's advisory arm.
A spreadsheet
A spreadsheet costs nothing and does exactly what you tell it. Be aware that Google Sheets' GOOGLEFINANCE function returns no dividend, yield or ex-dividend data, so dividends have to be entered by hand or pulled from another source. Our dividend tracker spreadsheet guide shows a workable setup, and the best way to track dividends compares the spreadsheet route with apps.
How we compared
We compared each tool on the features that matter to a U.S. dividend investor replacing Simply Safe Dividends: dividend safety ratings, alerts when a dividend changes, how holdings get in (sync, import or manual), dividend calendar and forecast, and price.
Prices and plan details were checked on each vendor's own pricing and feature pages on November 6, 2026. Where a vendor didn't state something, we left it out rather than guess. This is a comparison of published plans and features, not a long-term hands-on test of every app.
SmarterDividends is our own product. We have put it first in the safety-grade section because that is where it genuinely competes, and we have said where others are better: Simply Safe Dividends for analyst research and record length, Snowball and Track Your Dividends for broker sync, Sharesight for tax reports.
Which one should you pick?
- If you want analyst-written safety research and a long record, and the price is fine, stay with Simply Safe Dividends.
- If you want safety grades and dividend cut alerts for less, pick SmarterDividends Pro ($99 a year) or Track Your Dividends Premium ($99.99 a year).
- If you want every broker synced automatically, pick Snowball Analytics.
- If you need tax and performance reports, pick Sharesight.
- If you want to pay nothing, use SmarterDividends' free research and tracker, or a spreadsheet.
Whichever you choose, the warning signs behind most dividend cuts are the same. Our guide to dividend cut warning signs explains what any safety rating is trying to measure.
