Why the dividend changed

Sprott described the action as an increase to its regular quarterly dividend, not a special distribution or a payment connected with a split, merger or spin-off. Chief Executive Officer Whitney George linked the board’s decision to the company’s “continued strong financial results” and its disciplined approach to allocating capital. Sprott’s dividend declaration specifies the payment terms, while its third-quarter results provide the operating rationale.

The asset manager reported that higher average assets under management supported growth in management fees, net income and adjusted EBITDA from the prior-year quarter. Market appreciation benefited most fund products, while critical-materials strategies generated positive net sales. Those gains were partly offset by redemptions from precious-metals strategies.

The revenue base remains sensitive to commodity markets and investor flows. Assets under management stood at $57.3 billion at the end of September but had declined to $52.1 billion by October 30. That movement does not change the declared payment, but it identifies a central variable for future coverage because assets under management drive Sprott’s recurring management fees.

The third-quarter report adds that management views the company’s financial position as strong and free-cash-flow generation as accelerating. Sprott also repurchased shares during the year and through October, showing that the dividend increase formed part of a broader capital-return program rather than an isolated decision.

Dividend track record

The payment history shows step increases separated by periods of stability. Annual distributions rose 9.9% to $1.00 in 2021, remained unchanged at $1.00 in 2022 and 2023, and then rose 5.0% to $1.05 in 2024. Sprott now has 2 consecutive years of dividend growth, while its last annual cut occurred in 2018.

The more recent sequence makes the acceleration clearer. Quarterly payments were $0.25 on May 17, 2024, and August 19, 2024, before increasing to $0.30 on November 18, 2024. Recorded payments then reached $0.40 on March 2, May 19 and August 17, 2026, followed by the newly declared $0.50 rate.

The 2025 annual entry contains 2 recorded payments totaling $0.60, compared with 4 payments in each year from 2020 through 2024. Its reported 42.9% decline is therefore not comparable with those full four-payment years and does not represent the current quarterly-rate trend. The longer record instead shows a flat dividend in 2022 and 2023 followed by larger step-ups.

Is the dividend covered?

The dividend consumes 37% of earnings. That ratio indicates earnings exceed the distribution by a meaningful margin and leave funds available for operations, product development and other capital uses.

SmarterDividends rates the dividend C, with a safety score of 64. That places it in the borderline range of 50-65. The grade is more cautious than the 37% earnings payout ratio alone because Sprott’s fees and profits are tied to market-sensitive assets under management, investment flows and performance-related revenue. A C grade signals some coverage capacity but less resilience than higher safety grades if those business drivers weaken.

Yield and valuation

At a share price of $112.57, Sprott’s forward yield is 1.52%, compared with a Financial Services sector median of 5.92%. The stock therefore offers substantially less current income than the sector benchmark. The recorded annual dividend is $1.60 per share, equivalent to $160.00 of annual income for 100 shares.

The shares have delivered a 10.4% gain over the past year. SmarterDividends estimates fair value at $106.59 and assigns a fair valuation verdict. The valuation assessment and the below-sector yield describe different features: the first addresses the share price, while the second measures the cash income received relative to that price.

What to watch

The immediate dates are November 16, 2026, when the shares trade ex-dividend, and December 1, 2026, when payment is due. Canadian registered shareholders and qualifying holders through CDS are generally paid in Canadian dollars using the payment-date exchange rate, while registered holders outside Canada and qualifying holders through DTC receive U.S. dollars. Currency elections are subject to the procedures in Sprott’s declaration.

The next operating update will put attention on assets under management and the split between precious-metals redemptions and critical-materials inflows. Sprott’s September-to-October decline in assets under management provides a more current starting point than the quarter-end balance.

Investors can also track management’s product expansion and capital-allocation decisions. The company is exploring additional critical-materials products and expects greater deployment in its private-strategies business in 2027. Future disclosures on those initiatives, share repurchases and fee generation will provide context for the board’s dividend decisions.
