Best Dividend Tools (2026): Free and Paid Picks for Every Job

By SmarterDividends Team · November 6, 2026 · Updated November 6, 2026

The best dividend tools, as of November 2026, depend on the job you need done. For tracking income, SmarterDividends (free for 10 holdings, Pro $99 a year) and Snowball Analytics (free, paid from $79.99 a year) lead. For screening, our free dividend screener and Finviz's free filters are the quickest starts. For dividend safety, our free A–F grades, Simply Safe Dividends ($468 a year) and Seeking Alpha's Dividend Grades (Premium, $299 a year) are the main options, and Morningstar Investor ($249 a year) is the pick for analyst fair values. SmarterDividends covers most of these jobs free in one place, with three honest gaps: no automatic broker sync, no analyst articles, and U.S.-listed securities only.

No single site is the best at everything, so this guide is organised by what you are trying to do, not by vendor.

Tracking your dividend income

A tracker answers three questions: how much you'll earn this year, when it lands, and which holdings put that income at risk.

SmarterDividends

A free account gives you one portfolio of up to 10 holdings. You add them by pasting tickers and share counts or by uploading a brokerage CSV export. There's no automatic broker sync, and we'd rather say so up front. SmarterDividends Pro costs $99 a year (annual only, 7-day free trial with no card, 14-day money-back guarantee) as of November 6, 2026. It adds unlimited holdings, up to 10 portfolios combined, an A–F safety grade on every holding, a 12-month income forecast, and an email the day a holding raises, cuts, suspends or declares a special dividend.

Snowball Analytics

It is the pick if you want holdings pulled in for you. As of November 6, 2026, the free plan covers 1 portfolio and 10 holdings with broker report import, and paid plans ($79.99, $149.99 or $249.99 a year) add automatic sync with 1,000+ brokers via Plaid, Yodlee and SnapTrade. More in our Snowball Analytics alternatives guide.

Sharesight

It is the pick for tax and performance reporting. Its free plan holds 10 holdings, and paid plans start at $7 a month billed annually (as of November 6, 2026), with tax reports on every paid plan. See Sharesight alternatives if you mainly want dividends.

A spreadsheet

Google's GOOGLEFINANCE function has no dividend attribute, so most templates go stale. Our free API fixes that with a Google Sheets format: one IMPORTDATA formula per ticker returns the annual dividend, yield, next ex-date and pay date, safety grade and growth streak. The full build is in our dividend tracker spreadsheet guide.

For the side-by-side view, see our dividend tracker comparison, the best free dividend tracker roundup, and the best way to track dividends by portfolio size.

Finding dividend stocks: screeners

SmarterDividends screener

Our dividend screener is free with no account. It filters U.S. dividend payers by minimum yield, maximum payout ratio, minimum growth streak (5, 10, 20 or 25+ years), sector and payment frequency, and sorts by yield, streak, growth or market cap. The value screener needs a free account and filters by upside to our fair-value estimate, minimum dividend safety score, yield, 1-year return and sector, with saved screens.

Finviz

As of November 6, 2026, Finviz's free screener includes Dividend Yield, Dividend Growth and Payout Ratio filters, none of them marked Elite-only. It has no growth-streak filter and no safety score. Elite costs $39.50 a month or $299.50 a year.

Koyfin

Its screener lists Dividend Yield (Indicated and NTM), Payout Ratio (LTM and FCF), Dividend Per Share CAGR (5Y), Dividend Streak and Dividend Increases. The free plan allows 2 screens; Plus is $39 a month and Premium $79 a month as of November 6, 2026.

Stock Rover

Its dividend pages describe screens on yield, payout ratio against earnings and free cash flow, growth streaks and dividend CAGRs, plus ready-made dividend growth and income screeners. Premium starts at $34 a month or $348 a year as of November 6, 2026.

We compare these in detail, with filter settings, in best dividend screener.

Checking dividend safety

A safety score tries to answer the question that matters most to income investors: will this dividend be cut? Five tools offer one.

SmarterDividends shows an A–F Dividend Safety Grade free on the public page of every graded U.S. dividend stock. The grade comes from a 0–100 score built from dividend history (streak length, past cuts, how recent the last raise was) plus payout, free cash flow, debt and yield against the stock's own history. We log every cut since tracking began against the grade the company held beforehand, and publish the misses in our safety track record. As of November 6, 2026, only 8% of graded dividend stocks are rated D or F, yet 52% of the cuts recorded since April 2026 came from companies graded D or F beforehand. The safest dividend stocks list is the shortcut.

Simply Safe Dividends has Dividend Safety Scores for stocks and closed-end funds, with analyst-written research. The vendor says: "Since 2015, our Dividend Safety Scores have avoided 97% of dividend cuts." It costs $468 a year as of November 6, 2026. Our Simply Safe Dividends alternatives guide covers it in depth.

Seeking Alpha gives four sector-relative Dividend Grades (Safety, Growth, Yield, Consistency), updated daily, on Premium at $299 a year as of November 6, 2026. The vendor's own backtest says A+ to A- safety grades avoided 99% of cuts.

Stock Rover has a 0–100 Dividend Safety Score on its Ultimate plan ($99 a month or $948 a year as of November 6, 2026). It publishes the weights: free cash flow payout ratio 30%, net debt to EBITDA 20%, interest coverage 15%, cash flow predictability 15%, consecutive growth years 10%, Altman Z-Score 10%.

Track Your Dividends has a TYD Dividend Safety Score on Premium, which costs $99.99 a year or $9.99 a month as of November 6, 2026.

Vendor accuracy claims use different methods and periods, so they aren't directly comparable. For the warning signs any score is built on, read dividend cut warning signs and what is a good payout ratio.

Dates and calendars

You must own a stock before the ex-dividend date to get the next payment, so a calendar is a daily tool for many income investors.

  • SmarterDividends: the free ex-dividend calendar, ex-dividend dates by day, and a dividend raise calendar showing which companies usually raise in each month.
  • Finviz: a free Dividends Calendar by ex-date with ticker, amount, a special-dividend flag and estimated yield. It has no pay-date column.
  • Dividend Channel: a free monthly grid of ex-dividend and pay dates with per-share amounts.
  • Nasdaq: a dividend calendar on nasdaq.com, where Nasdaq notes that its partner Quotemedia provides upcoming ex-dates for the next month. We couldn't load the page on November 6, 2026 to confirm its columns.
  • TipRanks: a publicly viewable calendar by ex-date with yield, amount and payment date. Analyst consensus is hidden for free visitors; see their plans page for prices.

Research and valuation

For deciding what a dividend stock is worth, these are the main paid options.

Morningstar Investor costs $249 a year or $34.95 a month as of November 6, 2026, with a 7-day free trial. It offers analyst fair value estimates, star ratings and economic moat ratings, plus Portfolio X-Ray. It has no dedicated dividend safety score, and Morningstar itself says moat ratings are not a direct dividend measure.

Seeking Alpha Premium is the place for opinion. Its large library of contributor articles is the draw, alongside the Dividend Scorecard on each symbol page. Premium fees are non-refundable, per its help center. Our Seeking Alpha alternatives guide is fair about what you lose by leaving.

Koyfin is a data-dense research terminal with custom dashboards. Its Dividend Snapshot, per a 2021 release note, is for Premium users only.

Stock Rover stores up to 30 years of dividend history per ticker on Ultimate and Ultimate Pro (20 years on Premium and Premium Plus).

SmarterDividends publishes a free fair-value estimate on each stock page, and full dividend history back to 1970 where records exist. Our undervalued dividend stocks list combines the two. It is model-based, without analyst commentary.

Dividend calculators

Free calculators handle most planning questions. Ours: a dividend calculator, a DRIP calculator for reinvestment, a dividend income calculator and a live off dividends calculator that works back from the income you need. TipRanks also lists a Dividend Calculator, a Dividend Yield Calculator and a Dividend Returns Comparison with a DRIP option.

News and alerts

SmarterDividends publishes daily dividend news, a weekly list of every raise and cut on dividend changes this week, analysis from our own data in Originals, and a free weekly newsletter. Pro adds email alerts on your own holdings, including fair-value crossing alerts.

Simply Safe Dividends lists alerts for dividend changes. Finviz alerts (stock, price, screener, portfolio and calendar) are Elite only. Dividend Channel sends a free weekly newsletter.

AI assistants

If you research with Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor, our free dividend MCP server lets the assistant look up live data itself: yields, ex-dividend dates, every raise and cut, and A–F safety grades for U.S.-listed payers. It needs no API key, and all seven tools are read-only. You can ask "which of my holdings go ex-dividend next week?" and get dated figures rather than the model's memory. For your own code or spreadsheets, the dividend API serves the same data.

Where SmarterDividends falls short

We'd put SmarterDividends first for free research, safety grades and cut alerts. It is not the best choice for everything:

  • No automatic broker sync. You paste holdings or upload a CSV. Snowball Analytics is better if you want syncing.
  • No analyst articles. Seeking Alpha has far more written opinion, and Morningstar has analyst fair values.
  • U.S.-listed securities only. International holdings need another tool, such as Sharesight.
  • Our grades and fair values are formula-based, so they won't capture news a human analyst might weigh.

How we chose

We judged each tool on the job it does for dividend investors: depth of dividend data, whether it rates dividend safety, how easy it is to see upcoming dates, what is free, and what the paid tier costs. Prices and plan details were checked on each vendor's own pricing or help pages on November 6, 2026. Where a vendor's page couldn't be loaded, we left the price out. We haven't run a hands-on test of competitor products, so we describe only what their own pages state. Accuracy figures marked "vendor says" are the vendor's claims, not ours.

SmarterDividends is our own product, and it is independent, with no bank or broker behind it. Read our placement with that in mind.
